Make A Difference With These Green Energy Tips

By Avery Hill

Perhaps you already know that there are many benefits to using green energy in your home. There are a lot of good things about going green, from helping the environment to tax breaks. You are likely to find the beneficial solar information you seek, right here in this article. Read on.

You can make a difference and save energy simply by taking steps to use less energy every day. Unplug appliances when you're not using them. Always turn off the television and lights when you are not using them. This is an excellent way of saving you some money.

Start paying attention to your energy consumption. Unplug the charger for your iPod and Xbox when they are not in use. All the chargers you use for mp3 players, cell phones, laptops and any other devices draw in some charge when they're plugged in and aren't being used.

Be sure to cover your windows with drapes or blinds when not at home. This cools down your house and lowers energy use. South facing windows will receive the most sun, and therefore heat. Dark, lined curtains, roman shades or roller shades may be something to consider using on your windows.

Try to use cold water for washing clothes. Almost 90 percent of the consumed energy while washing your clothes is spent on heating up the water. Washing your clothing in cold water will get them just as clean as washing them in hot water if you have a good laundry detergent. Furthermore, bear in mind that you will get maximum efficiency from washing a load that is full, rather then multiple small loads.

One thing you might consider is heating your water with solar water heaters. If you're in an area that doesn't have to worry about freezing temperatures, you can get a system that will circulate the water through a solar heater before pumping it into your home. You should still retain traditional water heaters for backup when the sun doesn't show, or if you use a lot of heated water.

Find out more about the different energy solutions in your community. Find out what the cost would be to switch, how much it would cost to maintain, and whether your government has any legislation regarding its use. For example, you might see a savings if you switch from electricity to natural gas, or even switch from electricity to solar or wind power.

Solar panels have numerous benefits, as you are now aware. Best of all it doesn't take a lot of effort for you to buy and install solar panels for your home. The environmental benefits couple with an increase in home value and function to make this a great choice in home renovation.
